I'm a legal alien

I am in New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa, a nice little cooperation between some countries that means that I can be here for a year to work and live. It expires in October.

For a while now, Sam and I have been thinking something like "It will be fine, why would someone want to throw us out of Sweden/New Zealand". But it is becoming obvious that I need to do one of following things to be able to stay after October:

* Pay 1000 NZD, go through medical examinations, find all sorts of official documents and prove that our relationship is real by gathering EVERYTHING that can confirm it. Also, be in New Zealand at least 6 months of both the first and the second year following.

* Get a job related to my field (journalism/marketing) that has to be more than 30 hrs/week, in one of the worst unemployment crisis of New Zealand's history.

* Pay 1400 NZD for a visa that doesn't allow me to leave the country (or it expires).

* Leave for optional Pacific Island/country I can fly cheap to, before October 7th. Come back. Repeat every 3rd month and hope that they will let me in every time, until it's time to leave for home sweet EU.

I can honestly say that this little problem is taking up a quite big percentage of my thinking time right now. And it is not made easier by the fact that the process times for some of the visas are six months or longer.
