But I was so enthusiastic?
Let me tell you what happened. Principal flatmate, let's call him R, seemed very pleased living at this very address. He showed us the PS3, gathered everyone to have a wine in the heated lounge, told us how expenses would be 10 bucks a week, and told us how easy it was to heat up our room ("just turn on the heater in the lounge and the room will be warm in no time"). And oh, that moldy smell, it will be completely gone as soon as you heat the room now and then.
Yeah right.
After two weeks, (and no wines in the lounge, although flatmates are very nice) principal flatmate R moved out.
We changed curtains, sprinkled clove oil, smeared clove oil, hung up chalk (poor Sam did lots of this as I was sweating by the lake in Sweden), de-humidified etc etc. Still, the sheets smell like mold when crawling into bed (wearing full clothing). I don't think the room has ever reached a temperature higher than 15. Average would be... 12 maybe? Some nights, I have been sitting dressed in thermals, pants, down jacket, and wrapped in blankets BY the heater WITH a cup of tea and still haven't managed to do anything else than stare lethargic out in the room.
Oh, and another little detail just to illustrate - the wooden kitchen utensils have mold on them.
BUT, and these are the good news, we are moving on Saturday. To a really nice flat in Aro Valley, with a sunny garden, sunny deck, our own sunny balcony and CENTRAL HEATING.
Packing up again, minus Alfie the dog.
Bring the spring, we're prepared!
