Earth... cake.
(Non-Swedes, fast forward till about 0.30)
Yep. As you all probably know by now, Christchurch had a hell of an earthquake early this morning. It was a 7.1 on the Richter scale, bigger then the Haiti one. Even though New Zealand's construction work may lack quite a bit in terms of insulation and warmth, it is very developed in terms of earthquake safety. But when you see those demolished walls and smashed cars, you can also imagine how different the situation would have been if 99% of all the people hadn't been asleep in their beds when it happened.
Me - I slept peacefully through the whole shake, even though many of my friends in Wellington woke up from the room shaking sideways for minutes.
I imagine it would be a surreal and scary experience having been in Christchurch for the last few days. Still though, New Zealand is a seismologic country. Earthquakes will happen. This timing was extraordinarily good. A death by heart attack. Two serious injuries. A few broken limbs and bruises and shocks. A long and hard journey to build up what's destroyed. But that's it. No body counts, no one stuck inside buildings for days, no heartbreaking stories.
And now, hopefully, the pressure has been taken off our fault line for quite a while.
